This is the launch of CUMC’s annual project to collect school supplies for a local elementary school. The school we are joined with this year is Drew Model Elementary School in south Arlington. It has over 600 students and nearly half of them qualify for free or reduced fee lunches—an indication of financial need of the families. Our goal is to fill Drew’s supply room—with backpacks, pencils, erasers, markers, paper and all of the things it takes to get children excited about their new school year. There are two ways to join us in this project: Buy supplies (there are great sales already!) and bring them to the ushers on Sunday or leave them in the chapel, or donate financially—be sure to designate the money for “school supplies”-- and our shoppers will get the very best deal possible to make your dollar go a long, long way. Then, join us on Sunday, August 25, after worship to count, pack and label the supplies—and during the first week in September they will be delivered to Drew Elementary. Thank you for your generosity and willingness to be part of this project to help our community and especially the teachers and children at Drew.
