Save the Date:  Saturday, February 9, 2013 Volunteer:
For Two Hours (or Four or Six Hours)!
Save the Life of a Child
On Saturday, February 9, 2013, CUMC will host over 200 church and community volunteers with the goal of preparing 20,000 packets of Oral Rehydration Salts to be used for children suffering from dehydration in refugee camps, areas of civil unrest and poverty, and where natural disasters have struck.  1.5 million children a year will die from dehydration and 80% of the victims are under 2 years old.

The website of the World Health Organization states:  “ORS (Oral Rehydration Salts) use is the simplest, most effective and cheapest way to keep children alive during severe episodes of diarrhea.”

Oral Rehydration Salts are a mixture of sugar, non-iodized salt, potassium (salt substitute), and baking soda.  These measured ingredients are put in a self-sealable packet, boxed, and sent to a central warehouse in Michigan.  As relief agencies need the ORS packets they are shipped out to them.
To register for one (or more) of the shifts noted below, contact Joyce Wright at Missions@CUMCBallston.org.

You will push the elevator button marked “B” and follow the signs to Fellowship Hall.
