Central United Methodist Church will celebrate 100 years of service to God and community on October 22 and 23! We hope you will put these dates on your calendar and plan to come to Central to celebrate this momentous occasion! Hopefully many of us met God at Central. Many of us were baptized there, married there and sent our loved ones home there.
The weekend schedule includes a dance Saturday night which begins at 7:30 p.m. featuring the Northern Lights … a terrific big band sound including our own Dave Hoard. If you have never heard this band, you are truly missing a great time! The music just lifts you off your feet and on to the dance floor! $5 per person or $15 for a family. Pay at the door. Clergy are our guests. Light hors d’oeuvres will be provided. Child care is available but please let us know at Office@CUMCBallston.org if needed. If you plan to attend the dance please RSVP to the church office at Office@CUMCBallston.org or call 703-527-8844.
A Memory Book is also being compiled. The book will feature the history of the church with pictures depicting the events of the past 100 years. The Memory Book is complementary. Send your old pictures of Central events for inclusion in a slide show during the dinner following Church on Sunday. Send your pictures to our address or email them to Office@CUMCBallston.org. The Memory Book will also allow for paid ads. If you have a business and would like to place an ad, please submit your camera-ready copy to Office@CUMCBallston.org. The cost of a ¼ page ad is $25, ½ page is $50 and a full page ad is $100. If you need help with your ad, please send your business card and we’ll work one up.
Recipe Book. A Recipe Book composed of recipes from Central’s members both past and present will be available for a small price. This would make a wonderful Christmas gift for family and friends!
Sunday morning, of course, is our 11 a.m. worship service. Reverend Richard Cobb will share the Word and the choir and any prior choir members or music lovers are encouraged to join the choir as they sing the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah and “The Lord Bless You and Keep You.” If you would like to join in the group sing, come to the sanctuary at 10 a.m. on Sunday for a group practice. The more the merrier!
Following Sunday service will be a covered dish dinner. If you are not able to bring a dish to share, no worries, there will be plenty for all. This will also be an opportunity to hear our former pastors share memories of their time at Central.
Wall of Celebration. Our celebration committee has put together a wonderful opportunity for everyone to participate in a tile mosaic of a cross on a hill which will be placed in the Church. The mosaic will be surrounded by ceramic tiles with Bible verses and individual names. This is an opportunity to celebrate your time at Central by adding a tile in honor or memory of a loved one. Please pay careful attention to the next post which includes details of the Wall of Celebration!
We look forward to seeing all of you at Central for this wonderful event!
Yours in Christ,
